Robert Furlong has been working for more than 15 years as a freelance proofreader, copy editor,
copywriter
, and journalist. Since coming to Berlin in 2002 from Boston, Massachusetts, he has been
editing and writing for some of Europe’s most renowned institutions and corporations, including the
German Institute for International and Security Affairs
, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, and Sony Ericsson. He
specializes in editing texts written by non-native English-speaking researchers and academics for articles
and multi-author collections in the field of international affairs and the social sciences.

He was raised in Boston and, in 1986, received a scholarship to attend the University of Massachusetts’s
Honors Curriculum where he graduated magna cum laude in 1990 with a degree in English and German
studies before beginning a career as a freelance journalist. He has published more than 80 newspaper
and magazine articles working as a reporter, interviewer, reviewer, and proofreader for the business,
technology, arts, travel, and foreign sections of newspapers and magazines throughout the United States,
including the
Boston Globe, where he was a regular correspondent from 1992 – 1998.
